Sažetak
PREFACE “It is impossible to go backwards, the only possible and natural path is the one leading ahead. It means the path towards the economic development, the entry into the full civilisation.” (Prof. Mijo Mirković (1898 - 1963) The 5th International Scientific Conference “Entrepreneurship and Macroeconomic Management: Reflections on the World in Turmoil”, organized by the Department of Economics and Tourism “Dr. Mijo Mirković”, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, under the auspices of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Ivo Josipović and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia was held in Pula, Croatia, from March 24th to 26th, 2011. The Department has long experience in organising international scientific conferences ; there were more than 20 of them, starting from the pre-transition period until 1996. The organisation of the international scientific conferences was continued from the year 2000. In the focus of the 5th Conference were challenges for the scientists, public managers and entrepreneurs in the “world in turmoil”. In the globalized and changing world we all have to rethink the way of managing resources (human, natural, material, financial) at the microeconomic and at the macroeconomic level as well. The Conference had an international Programme Committee consisting of 20 respectable scientists, two third of which are from foreign Universities (Italy, UK, USA, Slovenia, Austria, the Czech Republic). More than 200 authors and co-authors, coming from Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Uganda, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, USA, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and from all Croatian universities, participated at the Conference with almost 100 scientific papers. After a double-blind review process and presentation the accepted papers are published in the Conference Proceedings, which is referred in the relevant scientific bases EBSCO and ABI/INFORM ProQuest. The two eminent scientists, Professor Soumitra Sharma and Professor Guglielmo Maria Caporale gave very interesting keynote speeches at the Plenary Session. Professor Sharma kindly gave his permission for publishing his thoughts in this publication. The Conference Proceedings consists of 14 topics: Accounting and Auditing, Banking, Education and Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Macroeconomic Management, Management, Marketing, Monetary Economics, Public Sector Economics, Regional Development and Human Resources Management, Sustainable Development, Tourism, Trade and Industry. We appreciate all the public institutions and private companies for their financial support: The Istrian County, the City of Pula, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce – Regional Chamber of Pula, The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Istria Tourist Board, the Pula Tourist Board, Tehnomont Group, Puljanka, Caffe Monte and other. We want to thank all participants, Programme and Organizing Committee, students and colleagues for their involvement and contribution to the success of the Conference.
