Sažetak
Free trade economy, pressure of globalization, business competition and the process of accession to the European Union have been compelling Croatia to undertake steps towards the improvement of the quality of its higher education – the latter being today, more than ever, an indispensable factor for the competitiveness of both higher education institutions and the economy. Using a modified SERVQUAL model, the aim of this research is to determine student's expectations and level of satisfaction with the quality of studying at the Department of Economics and Tourism "Dr. Mijo Mirković" in Pula (DET). The study examines the differences in perception and evaluation of particular elements of the quality of studying among regular undergraduate and graduate students. The study does not include undergraduate students of the first year, considering the fact that at the time of the research they have not had a chance to experience all the aspects of the quality of studying relevant for the results. In absence of the similar study results in Croatia, this research is particularly pertinent also because of the fact that DET is currently preparing to introduce a quality management system. The original questionnaire and the analysis of the study results can be used for further research in other institutions of higher education and could play a role in raising the quality level of higher education institutions.
