Since independence in 1991, Croatia has experienced difficulties in navigating the transition from its socialist past towards the ideal of a developed Western European country. Written by senior and up-and-coming academics and experts, this book offers analysis of the contemporary development challenges Croatia faces from a socio-cultural perspective: crucial demographic changes, the labour market structure, reconfiguring higher education, struggling with its parochial status in international knowledge production, obstacles to the career advancement of women in a patriarchal society, the impacts and consequences of the socio-cultural context, and value models reconstructed from catering establishment names.
