Sažetak
Human polyoma (HP) virus is within the family Polyoma viridae. Seroepidemiological studies have shown that between 27% and 80% of human population are infected with two polyomavirus- JC and BK. JC and BK infection occurs in early childhood. Antibody titers persist through the life. Based on the most of literature data, detection of decoy cells in the urine pointing to transient and asymptomatic reactivation of polyomavirueses can be seen in 0.5-0.6% of all urine cytology specimens. Objective: To evaluate the incidence of HP virus by cytomorfological findings in urine sediments. Patients and methods: Through 2010 year period in 439 patients was done cytological analysis of urine sediments after standard Pappenheim and Papanicolaou staining. In urine sediments cytology were searched specific cytomorfological findings for HP virus. Specific cytomorphological findings were presence of „decoy cells“-viral particles and viral inclusions bearing epithelial cells (type I-IV) which are linked to HP virus infection (re-activation of infection). Results: During one year we found in cytology of urine sediments nuclear inclusions pointing to HP virus in 8 out of our 439 patients (0.2%). In each of 8 patients HP virus type I cytological inclusions were found. In 3 out of 8 patients type II and III cytological inclusions were found and only in one patient type IV cytological inclusions characteristic for HP virus were found.
