Sažetak
This thesis explores the versatile side of a picture book and how it can be used to improve and enhance results in English language teaching. It also depicts how the picture book was created and developed from moral and didactic literature into a piece of art in both literary and artistic sense. Picture books were not meant to be exclusively in the printed format. The development of technology also brought new opportunities in presenting literary forms through different media such as animated cartoon, interactive CD-ROM, movie or audio book. A few original picture books from the English speaking area were selected for the practical part of this thesis. They served as a starting point in creating lessons which will fulfil the need of language teaching combined with teaching cultural content. Each lesson was planned upon a topic of the selected picture books. The goal was to satisfy educational goals and children’s need for creative expression, and satisfy their different types of acquiring the content. In conclusion it has been stated that including a picture book in the learning process has positive influence in developing interest for learning in pupils if it is presented in an interesting, creative and original way.
