Sažetak
The article analyses a case which occurred in Dubrovnik in 1284, when the priest Barbius Longus cut off the nose of the Benedictine nun Mira. The author shows that a typical controversy over jurisdiction on clerics was not witnessed here, and the cooperation between the ecclesiastical and secular authorities was exemplary. Instead, the friction surrounding the case developed on two other points. Although the church authorities did not hesitate to react firmly to the crime, the anchorites (recluse) showed an independent attitude to the case and helped the perpetrator escape. The second conflict was generated by the local people, led by the victim’s family, who urged for a severe punishment and tried to revenge, competing with the jurisdiction of the state authorities.
