Sažetak
In order to effectively confront with increased competition in the world market, an enterprise should follow the modern trends in a flexible integration and automatization of production systems. Recent innovative information and communication technologies, as well as a control theory, are making it possible. In this paper an overview of the four important components of a modern control of a production system has been considered: (i) an intelligent and integrated production control system, (ii) an automatic computer aided process planning system (iii) an inter-organizational information system design for virtual enterprises and (iv) an application of artificial intelligence elements as neural networks and fuzzy logic systems in modeling and control of manufacturing systems. The term virtual enterprise has been used in order to articulate the 21st century global manufacturing enterprise strategy.
