Sažetak
Pathogenic hantaviruses use β3 and non-pathogenic β1 integrins as their receptors and primary invade vascular endothelium leading to its damage, increased endothelial permeability and vascular damage. The major enzymes involved in degradation of matrix components belong to the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. It has been reported that integrins interact with some MMPs and that such interactions might regulate MMP functionality in human endothelial cells. Our objective was to study whether there are some differences in production of MMPs and thier tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) in patients sera, during the infection with different pathogens using β3 and β1 integrins as their receptors for the cellular entry. We measured MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 in sera of patients infected with Dobrava virus (DOBV) and Coxiella burnetii (COX), representatives of β3 integrin cell entry, or Escherichia coli (ECOLI), representative of β1 integrin cell entry. All three considered microorganisms induced changes in MMP/TIMPs serum levels. Some differences were observed between DOBV influence on MMP/TIMPs in comparisom to COX and ECOLI, while no differences were detected regarding integrin-receptors (β1 or β3) mediated cellular entry.
