Sažetak
Novels meant for children generally feature children as main characters. Their point of view is in focus, making it easier for child readers to identify with it. This thesis focuses on the analysis of point of view in four English historical novels for children and young adults set in several European contexts during World War II. It also examines the communication between the narrator and the narratee on the one hand, and the real author and the reader on the other hand. The analysis has established that point of view is carefully constructed in each of those novels, that it differs in specific novels, and that it is given an important role in the presentation of the stories and the settings. The child’s point of view is constructed based on the child’s experiences of war and its difficulties. Furthermore, all the analyzed novels emphasize the child’s perspective, which is sometimes confronted with adult perspectives. Novels presenting the child’s perspective make it easier for young readers to identify with the protagonists and to read with interest.
