Sažetak
AB Silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) is one of the most important economic and climatic species in area of selective forests. This species has a narrow ecological valence and is sensitive to different kind of pollutions. Research on genetic variability is very important for breeding and conservation of species gene pool. Plant breeding basis is found on provenance selection strategy - selection of the best individual trees. Early test was established in the nursery Kruželj, and the provenance field test in Forest office Vrbovsko. Research goals were to indentify influence of different crown damage classes on the variability of silver fir provenances in beech - fir forests in Dinaric mountain chain zone. Purpose of investigation was to indentify variability of different provenance for some physiological, morphological and quantitative properties of cones, seed and plants. Results of this research will initiate examination of current distribution of silver fir seed units. Conclusions: statistically significant variation between provenances was found for all studied physiological properties. It was not determine impact of different degrees of defoliation of crowns on variability of physiological traits. Statistically significant variability was found between provenances and degrees of crown defoliation for all studied morphological characteristics of seed. Also, it was found the existence of interaction between provenances and degree of crown defoliation. Nursery provenance test “Kuželj” demonstrated the existence of statistically significant differences between the provenances and degrees of defoliation of the canopy for plant heights and root collar diameter. Statistically significant interaction between provenance and degree of crown defoliation was determined for height and height increment of plants at the age of 8, 9 and 10 years on provenance field trials “Vrbovsko”. Average value of laboratory and nursery seed germination had the same trend. The highest average value of nursery and laboratory germination had older undamaged trees (VIT 2). Average surviving in provenances trial Vrbovsko at the age of 10 yeas was 73%.
