Sažetak
In today’s fast changing world one of the very important issues of any national energy policy is how to make entire energy sector, from production to the distribution, more efficient. According to the new Slovenian Energy Program proposal further development of the centralized electricity generation will be focused on competitiveness of producers, reliable energy mix, adequate capacities and the best available technologies. Development of the centralized electricity generation will be complemented with the extensive development of decentralized production. Equally important to the competitive generation supply is the competitive retail market. It can be expected that major challenges/changes for Slovenian electricity retailers will rise with the larger implementation of the smart metering devices. Nevertheless, for the retailer the main challenge is likely to remain the same – forecasting his customer’s demand and ability to manage risks related to price volatility. In this paper, evaluation of key strategic development challenges in the energy sector in Slovenia is presented. Special attention is given to the further development and competiveness of the electricity generation in Slovenia.
