Sažetak
The book “The Art of Treatment Planning: Dental and Medical Approaches to the Face and Smile” is a result of a long-term clinical and scientific experience of Rafi Romano, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics specialist and 21 collaborator ; they are all experts in their respective fields who, in their respective chapters, describe comprehensive oral rehabilitation procedures in everyday clinical practice. This book gives an overview of treatment planning from a multidisciplinary point of view, trying to balance through the complex proves of diagnostics, treatment planning and its procedures. The text is divided in five great chapters: First one deals with treatment planning innovations, especially surgically guided implant placement in both anterior and posterior areas in combination with case presentations. Additional subchapter presents immediate implant placement, loading and restoration of edentulous areas, together with new radiological techniques (CT, CBCT). Treatment planning for the restoration of a single tooth in the anterior region, together with the adjacent soft tissue represents the introduction to the second chapter. Scientific and clinical innovations are published in subchapters on teeth whitening and preservation, augmentation ant treatment of hard and soft dental tissue ; everything is supported by quality photographs and illustrations. Next chapter describes innovations in orthodontics and facial esthetics. Clear diagrams and author’s concise and simple approach guide the reader through the clinical proportion assessment and facial symmetry. Singular case presentations enhance the role of the soft tissue in achieving satisfactory smile esthetics. At the end of the chapter there is a list of new three- dimensional radiological techniques, imagining and treatment planning. After the extensive introduction to the definition and parameters of facial esthetics, in the fourth chapter there are available procedures in order to obtain the harmony and proportions of the face. Described techniques include plastic facial surgery with lip reposition, secondary rhinoplasty and the use of botulinum toxin. The book ends with a chapter on patient communication, patient motivation and education, especially in situations where there is a question of a prognosis and dealing with the present situation and achievement of acceptable results and final outlook. The book is clearly written and supported with recent publications and quality case presentations, pictures and photographs, from simple to the most complicated procedures that can be encountered by patient and therapist. According to the editor, this book is a sequel and addition to the book titled “Art of smile” and can be of interest to dental students and young clinicians, but the real use will be in the hands of doctors with long-term clinical experience in the oral rehabilitation of patients.
