Sažetak
The second half of the 19th century marks the beginning of the development of Croatian music historiography. A significant contribution to this development was made by the music journals of that time (Sv. Cecilija, Gusle and Glazba), but also by magazines which had a broader cultural profile and by the daily newspapers. In number there were over 250 of them they considerably exceeded the texts published in the professional music journals (which in any case did not appear for very long) and also did not lag behind professional music journals in their relevance. Recent histoiographical analysis must, of course, include strict verification of the credibility of all musico-historiographic texts of that time, because what are in question are too frequently unreliable data and/or interpretations. On the other hand, all of these texts retain the interest of todays researchers as testimony to the achievement of the respective writers on music and on the standard of musico-historiographic publication in Croatia. They definitely have a relevant place in the body of work written on Croatian music history and in Croatian culture in general.
