Sažetak
The life of one public enterprise of Croatian state forests within seven and a half years (from 1 January 1991) has been marked by two rather different periods: war-time till 1995 and the time to the present day. Normally, for the Croatian forestry today the periods until 1990 are equally important. The most important are three periods: until World War I, after World War I and after World War II.
Croatian forestry has now chosen European model, i.e. the specific ratio between the owned work equipment and the equipment owned by contractors. Sixteen public companies with limited liability have now been established transportation as a segment of felling, processing and hauling.
Neither restructuring of the so-called non-forest job can be the best long-term solution nor the concession of forests.
In spite of more school of thought views the market and public opinion are powerful forces of formel way of thinking change. A new era of forest(ry) work in harmony to produce effective, economical and practical solutions for the next century.
The transition planned towards market economy is an extraodinary complex process, not only from the political but also from the economic point of view. Nowadays, only the true profit is of exclusive interest, which is in many parts of forestry life a big danger.
Finally, resonable strategies will help the Croatian forests to remain an irreplaceable element of its landscape, economy and culture. For that reason, the results of the original research of transition problems must cover forestry practice in the widest sense of the word. But, sometimes there is a gap between our wishes and the actual situation.
