Sažetak
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by abnormalities in social interactions, communication and restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It is commonly associated with self-injurious behavior (SIB) that might be due to higher pain threshold. Opioid system is involved in processing of pain perception and analgesia. In this study we investigated possible role of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the genes regulating opioid system: opioid receptors (MOR, DOR, KOR), precursors of endogenous opioid ligands (POMC, PENK, PDYN) and peptidases inactivating these ligands (APN, NEP, DPPIV). For that purpose, genotipization using Real Time PCR of the selected SNPs in 103 autistic and 211 control subjects of Croatian population was performed. No differences in distribution of genotype and allele frequencies of the selected SNPs between control and autistic groups were found. However, male subjects with autism showed significant overrepresentation of G allele of the selected SNP (rs7608798) of DPPIV suggesting that it might play a role in etiopathogenesis of autism.
