Sažetak
Although the ichthyofauna of the upper flow of the Sava River has been well studied but there are yet no data on the presence of Ponto Caspian gobies (Neogobius spp.). Monkey goby (Neogobius fluviatilis) is a species of no economic value but it represents a favourable food for economically important fish species. It is a species with general and highly flexible feeding strategies, effective reproductive tactics, high tolerance towards environmental conditions and strong specialization to sandy and/or sandy gravel bottom habitats. Monkey goby was first observed in the Danube river during the 1960s. Until now, its rapid upstream expansion has been recorded in Serbia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Netherlands and in the Serbian part of the Sava River. In Croatia, the presence has been noted of the round goby (N. melanostomus) in the Danube River, the monkey goby and bighead goby (N. kessleri) in the Sava River lowlands. So far, there have been no records of monkey goby in the upper flow of the Sava River.
