Sažetak
Position of a woman in society is one of the most increasingly important subjects of nowadays which leads to various discussions, dilemmas and polarized opinions. Various researches, as well as the data about women and their way of life from ancient times, confirm that position of a woman in society is not easy at all. Therefore, in the work will be dedicated to historical presentation of a woman, her position and the origins of founding of the “women’s movement” and so called “women’s scene” which later resulted with appearance of the first women’s (gender) studies. Their active participation in global academic scene for more than two decades is the evidence that women’s studies are not a new appearance. The importance of these studies, their conceptual interpretation, guidelines for activity and their special characteristic will be presented in the study. The “women’s movement” has left its impression on the area of Croatia and influenced to their position as well as to the conditions of living and working today. According to this fact, the women’s studies in Croatia or more precisely the Center for Women’s Studies, the status which characterizes it and the content of educational programs, created for its numerous attendants, will be described.
