Sažetak
Esterification is the chemical process for making esters. The most common method for preparing esters is to heat a carboxylic acid with and alcohol, while the water that is being formed is removed. The broad specter of esterification use differs form preparation of highly specialized esters for laboratory use to commercial ester prducts that are produced with enzymes for laboratory use to commercial ester products that are produced with enzymes by either a batch or continuous synthestic process. Lactic acid is the simplest hydroxycarboxyl acid. Because of its carboxyl and hydroxyl group it can produce esters and makes it an alpha hydroxy acid. Esters of lactic acid, lactates, are the most important derivatives of lactic acid and can be used as ingredients for products such as paints, fat removers, cleansing solutions, or for productions of these. Lactic acid is produced by fermentation or synthesis and is used mostly in food, cosmetic and pharmacy industry. Supercritical CO2 as a solvent allows stability and catalytic activity of enzymes. Enzymatic reactions in supercritical CO2 have many advantages, such as no toxicity, no flammability, allowing high mass transfer and diffusion rates. The esterification of lactic acid was performed at atmospheric pressure and in supercritical CO2 with and without ionic liquid under several different conditions in high pressure reactor. The reaction mixture contained absoulte ethanol, lactic acid and Novozyme 435 enzyme. In case of ionic liquid Cyphos 104 was used.
