Sažetak
The number of special vehicles travelling on European roads is currently increasing. The valid Eurocode code EN 1991-2 for traffic loads on bridges assumes four different load models, of which only the Load Model 3 covers special vehicles and is to be defined by the National Annex of a particular country. These loads might be relevant for the design and durability of orthotropic deck plates, which are very sensitive to local axle and wheel loads. Design charts for bending moments of steel orthotropic plates with closed ribs under the Load Model 3 actions, as specified in the Croatian and Austrian National Annexes, are derived, utilizing the proven Pelikan-Esslinger method. The variables used in the procedure include deck plate rigidities, deck spans between cross beams and cross beam spans. For standard ranges of these variables, , bending moments for the rigidly supported deck plate and for the influence of cross beam flexibility, can be read from the constructed design charts. Results are compared with bending moments produced by Load Model 1. Because either the Load Model 1 or Load Model 2 could be relevant, various bridge span lengths and carriageway widths are investigated.
