Sažetak
Liquid phase pulsed corona reactors have been previously shown to be effective for the degradation of small aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g., phenol, both with and without the addition of various types of particles, e.g., activated carbon, and solution additives, e.g., iron salts. In the present work, we investigate the degradation of complex organic dyes by liquid phase pulsed corona discharge in the presence of catalytic zeolite particles. A number of organic dyes, including reactive dyes of monochlorotriazine type as well as threephenilmethine type, are decolorized in the pulsed corona reactor without the zeolite particle addition. The reaction process is likely direct oxidation by hydroxyl radicals. The addition of zeolite particles, including types, alpha, beta, and Mordernite, have been shown to enhance the rate of removal of dye color when combined with the pulsed corona discharge. Preliminary evidence suggests than the zeolites bind breakdown products of the complex dyes. Experimental analysis od dye breakdown, TOC, and reaction products for a number of dyes and combinations of dyes and zeolites will be presented.
