Sažetak
Damage of concrete due to sulfate attack is one of a serious problem for the durability of concrete structures. Special type of internal sulfate attack is heat-induced attack or so-called delayed ettringite formation (DEF). Delayed ettringite formation is still an open question. Because delayed ettringite was found in expansive paste, mortar and concrete it is considered as a cause of expansion. In this paper some aspects of the proposed mechanisms of expansion of concrete associated with the formation of delayed ettringite, will be presented. Apart from the exact mechanism of expansion, significant impact on the expansion have temperature of curing (curing regime), pH of pore solution, aggregate, chemical composition of cement and microcracks, among others. These parameters will be discussed in this paper. Understanding of these parameters is particularly important for development/improvement of performance-based test to prevent DEF.
