Sažetak
An adsorption study of series of, anionic surfactants 'was performed for providinig more information about influence of aromatic ring of surfactant molecule on its adsorption upon cotton cellulose. Recently it was found that mercerised cotton shows a lower anionic surfactants adsorption than unmercerised one what is no the case with anionic dyestuffs. Just one of characteristic properties f mercerised cotton is its power of adsorbing more dyestuffs. It means that there are market differences in dye and surfactant adsorption mechanism. Because of importance of cotton adsorptivity in wet processes it is very interested whether or not interaction between cellulosic OH groups, as proton donor, and delocalized pi-electrons of conjugated aromatic system known as Yoshida bonds, is partly responsible for the adsorption of aryl surfactant on cotton. One of the adsorption behaviour of the surfactants can be explained on the basis of hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance but it is only one contributing factor in adsorption mehanism. The other factors can be electrokinetic charge of cotton, degree of surfactant ionisation and the presence of chemically reactive groups in cotton cellulose. The present paper is an attempt to study the adsorption of anionic surfactants on cotton yarns on the basis of electrical and thermodynamic properties of cotton and with regard to the influence of aromatic part of surfactant molecule on its bonding with cotton cellulose. When mercerised cotton posses more accessible OH groups responsible for adsorption what is the basic substrate in present; paper. For that purpose, from Test fabrics, cotton yarns used (25 x 2x4 tex) were scoured and mercerised. The anionic surfactants used were sodium dodecyl sulphonate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate and sodium dodecylnaphtalene sulphonate, which are of the same hydrophilic and alkyl part but different aryl part of surfactant molecule.
