Sažetak
Steel and timber structures are a one semester subject at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, Croatia (3rd semester of B.A. Study of Architecture and Urbanism). This subject prepares students for Engineering Design Studio in 4th semester. Only 1 hour of lectures and 1 hour of exercises a week are provided for this subject with only one professor and one assistant on 125 students. Lectures and exercises have to be well optimised and efficient in order to gain sufficient quality of study and student projects including the design of details. This paper will show how reduction in number of classes provided for this subject influences the quality of details in student projects and how it reflects on Engineering Design Studio in 4th semester. It will also show that 33% of reduction in the number of exercises can be overcome with efficient programming but 73% of reduction can ´t be overcome by any means with gaining sufficient design quality.
