Sažetak
Heavy metal pollution in the wastewater sources from electroplating, dyeing, and tannery, has affected the life on Earth. The waste water in tannery industry is one of the most important environmental problems. Metal ions, especially chromium are directly involved in process of tannery, and they have negative effects on environment and human body if they are not in optimal concentration. The determination of trace of chromium, especially Cr(VI) form, in environmental samples and textile/leather materials is of great importance due to its toxicity. According to Öko-Tex Standard 100, maximum allowable concentrations are from 1 to 2 mg/L, depending of the class of product. The Croatian environmental legislation states that total Cr in final effluents should not exceed 0, 5 mg/L. Therefore, the determination of total Cr at trace levels has received considerable attention and it is very useful, even when specification is necessary. This paper presents the possibilities of determining chromium ions from aqueous solutions. In order the find out about the behavior of the diphenylcarbazide-chromium complex, studies were carried out using UV – VIS spectrophotometry within the 1 – 10 pH range. This method determine the total chromium and possibly present Cr(III) is necessary to first oxidize with optimum concentration of KMnO4.
