Sažetak
In this article a part of examinations needed for reconstruction of complicated stone bridge structures is presented. The examinations are presented on a structure of Mostar Old Bridge, which was originally constructed during the 16th century. The bridge was devastated during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1993. and reconstructed during the year of 2004. Detailed onsite and laboratory tests have made it possible to identify the old building techniques with the original materials, which on the other side defined the reconstruction technique. The Old Bridge was mostly built of limestone, which was a special version of a local stone which was easy to shape with contemporary tools. The limestone was locally called “tenelija”. The structural stones of the Old Bridge showed cracks induced by forces that have occurred during the time of 400 years in use. Some of the cracks were filled with secondary calcite material in order to improve the hardness of the stone. The investigations conducted on the bridge included ultrasound, mineralogical, micro seismic and video-endoscopic investigations, but also destructive as the constructive components of the aging processes. Core drilling and other methods enabled insight into the state of the remaining construction. On the remaining structure the comparison of the old and the new stone was made. This paper is presenting the evaluation processes which are inevitable when reconstructing complex stone structures of old bridges.
