Sažetak
The bacterial infection of the dental pulp causes changes in the periapical tissue, which can lead to alveolar bone and dental root resorption.Cells responsible for that phenomenon are osteoclasts and "odontoclasts". Bone resorbing osteoclasts are usually large (20-50 ľm) cells with multiple nuclei. These cells are fulfilled with numerous enzymes. One of them is the acid-phosphatase (AP), a lysosomal enzyme present in bone, prostate, erythrocytes and liver.
One of isoenzymes of the acid-phosphatase is tartrat-resistant acid-phosphatase (TRAP). This isoenzyme is the marker for osteoclasts and odontoclasts activity. In this study we have presented the activity of AP and TRAP in experimentally induced apical periodontitis on mongrel dog's lower premolars. We induced apical periodontitis by pulp exposure and left pulp chambers open for 50 days. The undecalcified samples were embedded in methyl-methacrylate and cut in 5ľm serial sections. The slides were deplastified and stained with SigmaŽ kit (Sigma Chemical Company d.b.a. Sigma Diagnostic St.Louis,MO 63178 USA) for AT and TRAP detection. In the slides the activity of AP and TRAP could be seen on the root and alveolar bone surface on teeth with maintained vitality of the pulp in the region of apical delta.
