Sažetak
A new method for estimation of synchronous machine moment of inertia is presented. Method is based on coast down experiment of short circuited and excited synchronous generator. It only requires the measurement of the armature current waveform and knowledge of armature resistance. This is an offline method for synchronous generator moment of inertia estimation. The estimation model is based on the rotor motion equation. Global optimization algorithm is used to estimate moment of inertia and other friction parameters. Method is compared with a conventional method for determination of inertia and with a 3D CAD model and it shows a good matching.
