Sažetak
This paper describes the preliminary results of research being conducted among teachers of secondary education institutions. The aim is to explore the representation of spatial data in the educational system, with special emphasis on the NSDI, assess the knowledge on the use of spatial data that students receive during their schooling, determine whether the curriculum meets modern educational trends and get teachers' recommendations for teaching improvements in the field of spatial data. The questionnaire includes a header with an introduction and instructions, followed by 17 questions of combined type. The survey is still on the webpage of the Croatian State Geodetic Administration and all Croatian secondary schools are invited to participate in the project. Teachers who participate directly in the education of secondary school students have the best overview of the knowledge and the awareness of new generations in the field of spatial data. They know how to improve the teaching process and transfer knowledge to future generations and they made very constructive recommendations that can be systemized in few topics presented in this paper. The preliminary results clearly show that there is a need for teacher training, higher spatial data interoperability as well as for connecting the NSDI internet pages with the Teacher Training Portal and the National Distance Learning Portal.
