Sažetak
This chapter attempts to construct key identifiers of Chinese collective memories embedded in communal places. It is divided in three parts, starting with a brief theoretical discussion on collective or social memory that precedes considerations on public or communal places developed with the intent to facilitate comprehension of communal places as the key nodes of localised collective memories (Halbwachs [1941, 1952] 1992). The second part is constructed on the basis of the data collected from Chinese ethnic organizations that developed their own facilities in Sydney since 1950s. The available data are used in the third part to develop observations on key memory landmarks localised in communal places and inform on probable patterns of Chinese collective memories in Sydney.
