Sažetak
Sorption properties on the XAD-8 resin and adsorption behaviour at the mercury electrode surface of different model surface active substances (SAS), Triton-X-100, oleic acid, fulvic acid, and polysaccharides Dextran T-500 and xanthan, were studied. Fractionation of the mixtures of model SAS into hydrophobic neutral, hydrophobic acid and hydropholic components by sorption on the XAD-8 resin was followed by dissolved organic carbon (DOC) analysis and by adsorption measurements at the mercury electrode surface in influent and effluent solutions. A good separation of the components of the mixture containing Triton-X-100, fulvic acid and Dextran T-500 was proved to be possible by electrochemical analysis of different fractions. In the case of a mixture containing very reactive components such as oleic acid and fulvic acid, it was concluded on the basis of adsorption measurements at the mercury electrode and from DOC analysis of different fractions, that a new material is formed which is more adsorbable at the XAD-8 resin and at the electrode surface. It is shown in this work that, in different mixtures of SAS, without exception, small amounts of hydrophobic neutral material, like non-ionic Triton-X-100 and oleic acid, have a dominant role in adsorption at the mercury electrode surface in the presence of larger quantities of less adsorbable macromolecular compounds, such as hydrophilic polysaccharides and amphiphilic fulvic acid.
