Sažetak
Marina Temkina has published two collections of poems: A part of a part (Časti čast', 1985) and In the Opposite Direction (V obratnom napravlenii, 1989). By their very titles both books signal theree fundamental aspects of this poetry: the situation of the author, the literary context - including the type of writing - and the dominant thematic preoccupation. The first aspect lies in the fact that Marina Temkina is a Russian emigrant poet. The literary context is the silver age of Russian culture, and the thematic aspect refers to homesickness.
Homesickness appears as a visual memory constructed according to ambivalence principle comprehended as a global principle generating a world-view. The basic opposition is contained in the semantics of city and nature, and - more specifically - in the relations foreign town vs. Russian town and foreign nature vs. Russian nature. In this way the semantic complex arising from their interaction is such unmeltable tight connections. The Russian town functions as a bearer of cultural memory with explicitly positive values. On the other hand, the foreign town bears no memory.
In Temkina's poetry nature appears as the exponent of melodramatic nostalgia and exists on two semantic levels. Firstly, it is a concrete imaginary-stylistic dimension that is closely related to the poetics of the overall text. Secondly, it is a bearer of over-empirical, associative and symbolic meanings. Nature is transformed from a narrative background into a legitimate literary device so to express the content of the literary work, the ideas contained and the author's conception.
