Sažetak
The author discusses historical sources on music and sound component of death-related customs in Croatia. These sources cover the period from the 15th century until the present day. Besides the most typical traditional phenomena, such as laments or keening (which is not considered as music), the sources comprise information about other music and sound practices encountered in this context. The author's interest is directed largely at an attempt to obtain an overview of the changes in the place, role and function of lamenting as part of the customs connected with death, which can reasonably be assumed to reflect changes in mentality and in the attitudes of people towards death.
