Sažetak
We have investigated the impact of the World War I on public interest in medical topics. 60 issues (30 before and 30 after the declaration of war) of Croatian weekly newsmagazine "Ilustrovani list" were analyzed. We have counted a number of pages dedicated to medical topics before and after the declaration of war. Number of medical articles after the beginning of war has increased considerably. Total number of pages was 7 times bigger in war period than before the war. The increase was statistically significant (p<0.001). As the number of articles considering medicine was higher in this specific weekly newsmagazine, we could say that the public interest in medicine topics rose during the war and consequentially more medical advances were made more easily during the war period.
