Sažetak
At the end of the 13th and early 14th century the noble kindred of Babonići came to the climax of its political and economic power, and have become one of the leading noble families of medieval kingdom of Slavonia (present-day Croatia). This paper analyzes the relationship between the members of noble family of Babonići and two Cistercian abbeys: the Abbey of Blessed Virgin Mary in Topusko and the Abbey of Saint Mary in Kostanjevica on the Krka River. The monastery in Kostanjevica was situated inside of the German Empire, but in the very closely to the border of Hungarian-Croatian Kingdom. Also, it was situated on the border of the domains of interest and lands of the Babonića family. On the other hand, the abbey in Topusko was near the town of Steničnjaka, the main castle of Babonić familiy in those times. Geographically speaking, the bordering position of the one, and central position of the other caused a different attitude from the family members towards them. Nevertheless, the monks of both monasteries enjoyed great confidence of the family members, who had generously donated them. The author describes the circumstances of these donations, but also social, economical, cultural and political role of the each of these two monasteries in the life of the kindred of the Babonići.
