Sažetak
Changes in the breeding habitat of two sympatric raptor species (the white-tailed eagle, Haliaeetus albicilla and the lesser spotted eagle, Aquila pomarina) were analysed within one of the most important breeding sites in Croatia for both species. Habitat suitability modelling was used to assess the influence of forestry practices from 2000 to 2006 using empirical data on nest sites within the research area. The four most important variables for the lesser spotted eagle were elevation, distance from the nearest pasture, vertical distance to the nearest channel network and broadleaf forest placement (based on PCA results of the EVI index of MODIS images). The variables that most affected the white-tailed eagle in the research area were broadleaf forest, height above sea level, vertical distance to the nearest channel network and distance from small settlements. All of these variables except the last had negative loadings. The results clearly reveal a disproportionate removal of forests suitable for the breeding of these raptors relative to the maturation of suitable forests.
