Sažetak
The medieval nobility was generally considered to be the wealthiest part of medieval society. Of course, the same situation can be said in case of medieval Slavonia which was part of greater Kingdom of Hungary. Nevertheless, even among the nobility there was difference in the wealth between aristocracy and lesser nobility. Probably the best way to depict that difference is trough out the research of the royal charters and records of places of authentication. Due to the fact that medieval chapters were places of authentication (locum credibile), meaning the places were the various financial transactions were conducted, the documents produced by those intuitions provides various information about the possession’s rights of lands, but also quantity and types of incomes of nobility in high middle ages. Even more, extra information about others sources of nobleman’s income can be found in those documents, such as information about tolls from market places or ferries. The main goal of this paper is to depict various sources of nobleman’s income, and to define differences of the income sources of medieval aristocracy in contrast to the lesser nobility. Nevertheless, some facts about types and origins of medieval nobility in Slavonia as well as in Kingdom of Hungary must to be said.
