Sažetak
Our results showed an association between cigarette smoking and elevated serum total, LDL, VLDL cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as low HDL cholesterol in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Cessation of smoking will apparently slow progression to cardiovascular disease in type 1 diabetes, but the decision to stop smoking is difficult because of the high addictive potential of the habit. The challenge remains for physicians to motivate patients to stop smoking.
