Sažetak
The present study evaluated the suitability of the Slovene Armed Forces (SAF) winter combat clothing ensembles for mild cold regions (-19C to -6C), specifically the suitability of the thermal insulation during a hike and guard duty. For this purpose, during the process of optimization the military equipment assigned for operational activities in any specific region was tested with human subjects to ensure unhindered performance in the assigned region. The study include field study (3 hour hike on different snow terrain and 3 hour guard duty) with test subjects (N=10) as well the testing of different winter combat clothing ensemble combinations (N=10 ; different garments in the clothing ensemble) using thermal manikin. Results show that clothing ensemble for guard duty must ensure higher thermal insulation in comparison to clothing ensemble for hiking. However the thermal insulation was the main investigated parameter in the presented study, the optimization process of winter combat clothing ensemble has followed the developed multilevel models [1-3]. Such models combine different numerical mathematical models using which the human test could be reduced. It is about predictive thermoregulatory models and the simplified model for simulation of non-linear tensile behavior of woven fabric as basic element of particular garment item. Latter simplified model is main topic for future work.
