Sažetak
This work is focused on the study of flame-retardant (FR) properties of synthetic FAU zeolite coatings on cotton fabrics. Zeolites, as a class of crystalline materials with unique properties, have been widely studied for uses in various fields [1]. In this case their high hydrothermal stability and the possibility of isomorphous substitution of structure constituents have been taken into account in order to impart less flammability to cotton fabrics. Seeing that the literature data report the deposition of zeolite on cellulose from cotton fibers as less efficient compared to other cotton fibers [2], a number of modifications of the in situ crystallization of FAU zeolite have been studied in order to optimize the zeolite-cotton composite material. The properties and structure of these composites were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limited oxygen index (LOI) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As seen in Fig. 10 the formation of a relatively homogeneous coverage of the cotton fabrics was obtained from immerging cotton fabrics into a zeolite reaction mixture having the following molar composition: 6Na2O-10SiO2-0, 425Al2O3-0, 15CuSO4-Na2HPO4-240 H2O after 5 impregnation cycles and crystallization at 160 °C for the duration of 5 min. The distribution and degree of cotton fabrics zeolite coating was determined for different zeolite reaction mixtures and crystallization conditions in order to prepare zeolite-cellulose composite materials having desired properties.
