Sažetak
Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by hyperproliferation and incomplete differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes. It is nowadays also recognized as a T-cell mediated disease resulting from aberrant activation of both, innate and adaptive immunity. The dysregulation of innate immunity provides an initial signal for the activation of specific effectors cells namely Th1 and Th17 cells. Recent studies indicate the role of IL23/ Th17 axis as a key mechanism in the evolution of psoriatic plaques. Thus, interplay between keratinocytes and immune cells in the patients who have genetic predisposition orchestrate the complex cascade of events leading to the development of psoriatic lesions. Finally, the subsequent impact of the postulated new immunopathogenetic mechanisms in psoriasis on the development and efficacy of the novel biological therapies is highlighted.
