Sažetak
Since the proclamation of political independence in 1991, Croatia has faced the difficult task of legal regulation of numerous social issues, including healthcare service and health protection system. Stired up by the experience of other countries, by the obligations taken over by signing international documents, as well as by the real needs of the healthcare service system, civic iniciatives have emerged oriented toward passing a special law regulating and protecting patients' rights. In the present paper, the Patient Rights Protection Act (NN 169/04) has been analysed in depth, both in its provisions and interpretations, and in its broader context. Without diminishing its importance for Croatian healthcare service system, it has been the intention of the author of this paper to indicate the basic weaknesses of the Act, as well as the difficulties following its implementation into patients' everyday life.
