Sažetak
The research data showed that lower scores of perinatal measures of the prematurelly born chlidren can be connected to the lower scores that they achieve on the early language variables and also to their subsequent reading and writing skills. The aim of this research is to describe some features of morphology and syntax, meaning language development in prematurelly born children and relations of the early development with performance on morphosytnactic tasks. The regression analysis of impact of perinatal factors on morphosyntactic knowledge has shown that these measures have statistically significant predictivity for language. Gestational age belongs to the most significant predictors for the variables of derivational morphology and other variables that describe morphosyntax. The results confirm and point to the increased risk at prematurelly born children for inappropriate level of language, more percise, morphosyntactic abilities, measured in the school period. As, along with biological features, many nonbiological factors significantly contribute to language development, the outcomes of premature birth in the segment of language development can be very diverse (Bishop, 2000). The aim of the work is to emphasise the premature birth as a possible risk factor for development of language impairments and also to elaborate different strategies of decreasing the risk for inappropriate language knowledge. The necessity of speech and language treatments for prematurelly born children in the area of reading and writing will also be discussed.
