Sažetak
Purpose: according the presence of chronic disease in children, and impact that it may have not only on children but also on parents, we hypothesis that parents with children who have Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or celiac disease (CD)will have lower QoL compared to parents of healthy children. Procedures: participants were parents of children with IBD (n=55) or CD (n=49)as well as parents of healthy children (n=53). In order to assess quality of life, the Croatian version of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was used for the current study. Main findings: parents of children with IBD report a significantly lower psychosocial well-being compared to parents of children with CD and parents of healthy children. Parents of healthy children have significantly higher physical health compared to parents of children with IBD. Higher overall QoL was found in parents of healthy children compared to both, parents of children with CD and IBD. Conclusion: our results of connection among disease presence in offspring with poorer parental QoL highlight the importance of supporting parents of children with chronic disease in the form of psychosocial interventions for parents as well as supporting the patient's associations groups which involves children and their parents.
