Sažetak
Translation is doubly significant in the age of postmodernism. On the one hand, postmodern theory emphasises the text’s creativity, making it impossible to conceive translation as a copy of the original. On the other hand, translation becomes collaborative writing, not only between the author and the translator, but between the author, the translator and the reader. The aim of this paper is not to convey the many different and often conflicting perspectives and theories about authorship and translation, which would not be possible here, but to address the roles of the author and translation in relation to the text. The criteria that allow me to offer some reflections on the differences between the author and the translator are drawn from different approaches to the issue from the points of view of postmodern philosophy, hermeneutics and linguistics. In discussing the roles there is a need to define and highlight the position of the translator in the actual process of translation. Otherwise, the role of the translator will lack evidence. Although the topic under consideration is complex, the aim of the paper is to make a further contribution to the debate of translation and creativity and to continue the discussion about the roles of the author and the translator in relation to the text.
