Sažetak
In today's world, social network services (SNS) have a global impact on communication all around the world. The topic of the lecture was the social responsibility of such networks, and the way they affect the modern society. At the beginning, an overview of social networks services was given, with classification on general, academic and corporate social networks and short analysis of the importance of each kind of network. It was shown that, in a very short time after introduction, social networking became the leading activity on the Internet and it clearly has a lot of potential to foster social responsibility. Later on, several examples were given regarding a role of social network services in the context of encouraging and enabling social responsibility. The first example addressed Global Disaster Relief page on Facebook social network, which helps raise awareness for people in need all around the world. During the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan, people used Facebook, as well as Twitter social network, to get in touch and share information with their families and friends. The other example was Facebook Causes page, which enables users to mobilize their friends and raise awareness about the problems they find important. Social networks were also used in actions promoting human rights and freedom of speech, like Egyptian revolution.
