Sažetak
This study evaluates the clinical usefulness and anesthetic effect of combined anesthetic protocol in sheep. The protocol consisted of premedication with a combination of butorphanol, xylazin and ketamine followed by induction with thiopental and maintenance with isoflurane in oxygen. The effect of anesthesia on hematological parameters was also evaluated. Since all the sheep in our study showed smooth induction, no specific problem during general anesthesia and furthermore had relatively rapid recovery we consider this anesthetic protocol very suitable for clinical and experimental procedures in sheep. Neither of the mesured hematologic parameters showed significant difference before and after anesthesia. We concluded that this protocol is not just suitable for manipulation with sheep but has minimal effect on animal health.
