Sažetak
In the introduction chapter, the motivation for this study is given, its scope is delineated, and preliminary concepts are defined. The second chapter of the thesis is overview of ALICE data production and data processing flow. There are presented resulting storage, network and processing requirements and proposed organization of computing resources. The third chapter is analysis of AliEn distributed computing model with the emphasis on the resource brokering and global file system. The concept of distributed job agent model is studied. The AliEn scheduling prioritizing algorithm is analyzed and extended with the new features. The fourth chapter is the separation and analysis of the components managed by AliEn middleware: batch-computing subsystems, storage elements and networks. Their architecture, organization and performances are presented. There is more detailed performance analysis of file transfer protocols over long and high capacity network links using TCP/IP protocols. The last are presented network QoS (quality of service) techniques or methods that may be used at QoS-enabled WAN links. The fifth chapter presents the techniques of discrete event simulation and their implementation for solving the problem of AliEn data processing simulation. The sixth chapter presents the data transfer layer abstractions and identifies the key requirements of file transfer simulation. The model for approximate network file transfer simulation in a grid environment (ANFT) is proposed. The model and its implementation are tested comparing with the standardized packet-based network simulator. The seventh chapter is top-down decomposition of the complete simulated subsystem into DE components and defining components communication paths/messages. In addition, the used software architecture is described and the simulator performance issues are commented. In the last chapter, characteristic simulation case is presented. Used job workload stresses the various components of the processing environment. The results of multiple simulation runs are used to verify efficiency of scheduler prioritizing algorithm and to tune various system and user defined parameters. Also the potential processing bottlenecks are identified.
