Sažetak
Skin disease has always had a major adverse effect on patients' lives, but it was only at the beginning of 90-tis that this effect was measured in a repeatable way. Since then there has been growing interest in devising methodology to measure quality of life (QOL) in dermatology. Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases. It affects all ages but mainly young people at the sensitive period of puberty. The impact of acne upon the quality of life is a very important component of the overall morbidity associated with acne, and often is the primary consideration in deciding whether or not to institute therapies, especially in cases of patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Despite this, quality of the patient's life or the functional or cosmetic disability is not routinely assessed. The Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) is a simple method for the estimation of subjective severity of skin disease in routine practice. The aim of this study is to compare the severity of acne vulgaris determined by the clinician using the Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA) acne severity scale and the level of disability caused by acne determined by the patient using the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI). Patients suffering from different types of acne vulgaris will be included in this study on voluntary basis during the routine practice. Each patient will be asked to fill in the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) while the clinician will fill in the Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA) acne severity scale. The severity of acne assessed by the clinician may be at odds with the patient's opinion, which may lead to dissatisfaction with treatment. The appropriate treatment can be selected on the basis of clinical disease, demographic and historical factors such as age and response to past treatment, and the functional disability experienced. The CADI questionnaire will identify patients significantly disabled by their acne, not always with clinically severe disease. Through the usage of CADI in routine practice the cooperation between patient and clinician will be significantly improved resulting in more successful treatment of the disease and increased overall quality of routine practice with patients suffering from acne vulgaris.
