Sažetak
Psoriasis has a tremendous impact on patient’s lives, affecting them physically, psychologically and socially. A study showed that the impact of psoriasis on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is similar to that of other major medical disease such as cancer, arthritis, hypertension, heart disease, myocardial infarction, chronic lung disease, diabetes, depression and other dermatitis. When asked, patients who have more than one of the major medical problems almost always preferred to have their psoriasis cured to other major medical problems. However, disease severity, as measured by instruments such as the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), is not the sole factor determining the burden of illness because relatively minor psoriasis located on visible parts of the body may also have a detrimental effect on HRQOL. The Psoriasis Disability Index (PDI) questionnaire was designed for use in adults, i.e. patients over the age of 16 with psoriasis. It is self-explanatory and can be handed over to the patient who is asked to fill it in without the need for a detailed explanation. The higher the score, the more the quality of life is impaired. Insight in PDI score can reveal one’s mental vulnerability thus enabling clinician to act timely with appropriate psycho-therapeutic intervention. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine the connection between the Psoriasis Disability Index (PDI) and the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) in patients suffering from psoriasis vulgaris from the Osijek-Baranja County and to evaluate the influence of such connection on the success of their treatment. It has been hypothesized that the disparity between PDI and PASI will negatively affect the success of the psoriasis treatment. Through the usage of PDI in routine practice and by the usage of its results in adjustment of individual approach to each patient, the cooperation between patient and clinician will be significantly improved resulting in more successful treatment of the disease and increased overall quality of routine practice with patients suffering from psoriasis vulgaris.
