Sažetak
This presentation focuses on Rudjer Boskovic Institute (RBI) and Rudjer – Innovations Ltd (RI) commercial activities between 2002 and 2007. RBI as a most famous and the largest scientific institutions in natural science in Croatia was, with some other institutions, chosen as a partner in so called STP (Science Technology Program) which started by Ministry of Science and Technology (of the last Government) with financial support of World Bank in 2002, and was continuously prolonged by Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of present Government. In this presentation the history of efforts in education of RBI’s scientist in commercialization, the results of tentative introduction of technology transfer office (TTO), and change in scientific policy and procedures will be done. The results after 3 year were: establishing the first spin-inn company “BioZyne! (RBI, authors of patent and VC are co owners), establishing the “Chirallica” together with BICRO (RBI and authors of patents are co owners). In 2006 the Rudjer –Inovations Ltd. was establish. RI Ltd. is company for technology transfer and commercialization of intellectual property and innovations owned by RBI, which serves as a link between science and technology and business and industry. It is open to entire Croatian community (academic, innovators’ etc.) for help with commercialization of ideas, innovations or research results. Activities of RI Ltd. include intellectual property identification and evaluation, IP protection (patents, trademarks, copyrights etc.), appropriate commercialization model realization (licensing, new spin-offs establishing, joint ventures etc.), innovation and project financing, business contracts negotiating and executing and technology transfer consulting. Company promotes innovation culture by raising awareness of commercial exploitation of academic projects, supporting academic entrepreneurship and developing different cooperation forms between academic research and business sector. Company’s intent is to help Croatian scientists and experts to develop and exploit their know-how that is competitive on the global market. In very short time RI Ltd. establish some new company: Rudjer Medikol Diagnostics Ltd. for the genetically inherited breast cancer testing, (sophisticated method developed in RBI R&D laboratories), and Initium Futuri Ltd. established in 2007 by group of young inventors and RI Ltd. whose main objective is to offer new solutions based on latest informatics platforms to the market. (Basic company’s activity is the development of high information-communication technologies with emphasis on program solutions development). Rudjer Innovations also offer: The product QRBG (Quantum Random Bit Generator) for applications in cryptography, hazard games, and productions of pins (banks, telecommunications), Monte Carlo simulations and research ; Software called “Robin Hood” (RH) method as an innovative, highly efficient method of calculation for electrostatic problems. RH software is very broadly applicable wherever the calculations of electrostatic fields and potentials are needed. The most promising applications comprise electron and ion optics, anticorrosion cathode protection, electronic circuit design, accelerator and medical equipment design. At that moment RI Ltd. works on more than 20 promising innovations and patents.
